El Barro

EXTRAORDINARY MEZCALS… AND

small-batch artisanal mezcal

second distillation in clay potstills

Read Spear of CuentaCuentos noticed that many mixologists had to work with subpar mezcals in the well because better mezcals cost too much to use in affordable mixed drinks.

Read worked with Carlos Mendez in Santiago Matatlan, the epicenter of Oaxacan mezcal production, to create a BARRO-dedicated distillery with four clay potstills.

Maestro Ricardo Ruiz of Sola de Vega uses artisan methods to roast, mill, and ferment the agaves for el Barro. He distills the first run in traditional copper potstills, then distills the second run in small clay potstills.

Both Cuentacuentos and Craft Distillers are operating with El Barro at absurdly low margins to make it possible to put an excellent clay- finished mezcal in cocktails. We believe in mezcal. Period.
